LAMPADA A OLIO IN BRONZO, INDIA, XVIII SECOLO, ORISSA Dimensioni: Altezza 10 cm, Larghezza 9 cm, Profondità 11 cm Peso: 227 grammi Una vivace lampada a piedistallo in bronzo con un recipiente per l'olio poco profondo e allungato, bordato da piccole punte in rilievo e dettagli zoomorfi. Un pinnacolo a forma di uccello si erge sopra il piatto, mentre la struttura portante incorpora una figura animale e un piede circolare modellato. Gli ornamenti incisi e fusi riflettono la luce sul metallo dal caldo colore marrone, con tonalità più scure che si depositano nelle cavità. Le lampade a olio offrivano sia un’illuminazione pratica sia una fiamma di buon auspicio nel culto indù. Uccelli e animali potevano conferire a questi piccoli oggetti un carattere vivace e simbolico senza oscurarne la funzione. Questo esemplare possiede la giocosa inventiva di una scultura in miniatura.
