Dipinte intorno al 1940 con una tavolozza scura di marroni e verdi, le rane emergono da uno sfondo di rami e vegetazione, mentre le pennellate più vivaci animano la composizione. L’opera testimonia il gusto di Sterling per una figurazione espressiva, in cui la materia pittorica e i contrasti luminosi conferiscono al soggetto una presenza quasi fantastica.
