Durante un banchetto offerto da Erode, Salomè danza davanti ai commensali; come ricompensa, chiede la testa di Giovanni Battista, che viene portata su un vassoio nel bel mezzo del banchetto (Matteo 14,10-11). Opere correlate Diverse versioni o varianti di questa scena sono conservate in vari musei: - Musei Reali delle Belle Arti del Belgio, Bruxelles (in gran parte opera di Rubens); - National Gallery of Scotland, Edimburgo (di Rubens e della sua bottega); - Alte Pinakothek, Monaco di Baviera (bottega di Rubens).
