Henri-Edmond Cross (Douai, 1856 – Le Lavandou, 1910) Bord de mer Olio su tavola 13 × 18,5 cm Cross espone al Salon des Indépendants di Parigi già dal 1884, data della prima edizione di quello che diventerà l’appuntamento annuale degli artisti neoimpressionisti. Insieme a Seurat e Signac, sostiene un approccio cromo-luminarista alla pittura basato sulla divisione dei toni. Questo «Bord de mer», caratterizzato dal principio della giustapposizione di pennellate e ombre colorate contrastanti, presenta le caratteristiche delle opere divisioniste. Testimonia le ricerche estetiche condotte da Cross insieme ai suoi amici più cari, Signac e Van Rysselberghe, durante i loro soggiorni estivi nel Var.
