Copertine in carta spagnola. 2 volumi. Misure: 18 x 12 x 4 cm. Tradotto in spagnolo e notevolmente accresciuto da don Francisco Alvarez. Con incisioni. Le indagini di Despretz sul calore latente e sull'elasticità e densità dei vapori, sulla conducibilità calorica dei metalli, sulla compressione dei liquidi e dei gas, sulla trasformazione del carbonio nel diamante, sulla pila e sull'arco voltaico, furono determinanti per stabilire le basi della fisica moderna. A lui si deve anche l'invenzione del primo forno elettrico e la scoperta, nel 1822, del gas mostarda.
