Mettiamo in relazione questo ritratto con quelli conservati al museo di Bilbao (tre ritratti di Maria Anna di Neuburg e un ritratto di Francesca Mudarra) realizzati da Coello, che fu pittore di corte dal 1685 al 1693, succedendo a Juan Carreño de Miranda. Il nostro ritratto era in precedenza identificato come quello di Maria Cristina, figlia di Maria Teresa, sorella di Maria Antonietta, sposata con Alberto di Sassonia-Teschen, ultima governatrice dei Paesi Bassi austriaci.
