Lo stesso Mattheuer spiega in un’intervista con Dieter Brusberg (editore) nel marzo 1990: «Ciò che ora viene presentato come un insieme non è nato in questo modo. Il senso evidente di appartenenza è derivato piuttosto dagli eventi dell’autunno del 1989. Ad eccezione di una, «Icarus si libra», avevo già ritagliato tutte le altre fogli nel corso dell’anno, prima delle meravigliose settimane di settembre e ottobre del ’89. (...)».
