LAY, Eleonor (1788-1790). To Mrs. Fitzherbert these 4 Views of the Steine at Brighthelmstone, are with Permission Dedicated by her most obedient & devoted humble servant. Brighton: Lay, 1788. Complete series of four aquatints by Eleanor Lay forming a detailed view of the 'Old Steine', the Brighton promenade, as it appeared in 1788. Eleanor May was a saleswoman and printer who had a very famous shop right on the Steine; the original watercolours of this set of views are kept at the Brighton Museum. 4 watercoloured engraved views, (445 x 605mm).
