Still life with fan Oil on canvas Signed lower left and dated 27 Size: H:46 cm × W: 40 cm Merica Râmniceanu was born in Bârlad in 1891 and died in Bucharest in 1972. She began her professional training at the Bucharest School of Fine Arts, then moved to Paris, where she studied at the Académie Libre de Montparnasse with the Swiss artist Rodolphe-Theophille Bosshard (1889-1960). Between 1924 and 1945, she took part in most of the exhibitions of the official Bucharest Salon of Painting and Graphics, exhibited at the Salon d'Automne in Paris, participated in the exhibitions of the avant-garde groups, of which she was a founding member: Arta Nouă, Criterion, the Plastic Group of 1934. After 1948, she disappeared from the local artistic scene, devoting herself to restoring church paintings.
