Aristide PASTOGLOU (né en 1941)

Brown patina bronze featuring a female figure Moose print numbered 1/8 and signed Dim. H: 70 cm - L: 20 cm - W: 16 cm Aristidis Patsoglou was born on the island of Lesbos in 1941. Between 1962 and 1965, he took his first drawing and painting lessons with the sculptor Thanassis Apartis. He then enrolled at the Athens School of Fine Arts to study in the studio of Yiannis Pappas, graduating in 1969. He then moved to Paris and continued his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts (1970-1974) in sculpture with César and René Collamarini and in engraving with Robert Cami and Jacques Lagrange. He also took courses in visual arts, art science and audiovisual techniques at the University of Paris VIII between 1974 and 1979. His style fuses international trends and ancient Greek influences in an expressionist manner. His work is anthropocentric, emphasizing the human figure, the naked body and movement, in subjects often with mythological or historical connotations. He focuses on the expressive potential of his material, leaving visible the traces of fabrication. In his large-scale works, he is concerned with sculpture's relationship with space and light. In addition to sculpture, Patsoglou works in painting and engraving. He combines representational and abstract elements; gray and white tones play a key role in his lithographs, woodcuts and paintings. He has exhibited his work extensively in Europe, in over forty solo shows and participating in a large number of group exhibitions. He was awarded the "Grand Prix d'Arts Plastiqs Jeunes" by the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon in 1975 and the "Médaille d'Or de la Société des Artistes Français" in 1976. His works can be found in the collections of the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, the Musée d'Art Contemporain in Quebec, the National Bank of Greece and in a large number of public and private collections in Greece and abroad.
