PAIR OF TOWEL RACKS - VENICE Wood Date: late 18th/early 19th century Dimensions: Height: 212 cm, bases: 74 x 67 cm An exceptional pair of black and gold-stained wooden torchiere holders, featuring a pair of richly-dressed Nubians (glass eyes) squatting on their knees, holding on their forearms an eagle supporting a circular tray designed to hold a torchiere or vase. It rests on octagonal bases molded and carved with geometric motifs and scrolls, as well as openwork windows revealing two small Nubian musicians seated on carpets.
