After winning a prize at an international exhibition in Madrid at the age of 17, he continued his apprenticeship in Italy, studying with Marino Marini. Before returning to Mexico for almost ten years, between 1960 and 1968, he obtained a navigation certificate in the merchant navy, which enabled him to sail the seas for the rest of his life. At the University of Mexico, then in Merida in the Yucatan, he taught direct-cut sculpture and exhibited at the International Sculpture Biennial in Mexico City (1963) and in Buenos Aires in 1964. On each of his trips to Sweden, Newfoundland, Mauritius and Madagascar, Davila created a number of sculptures, carving marble, granite and local stone, and taking part in sculpture exhibitions. On the Costa Brava, before setting sail again in 1975, he created six monumental sculptures for the Château de Pubol, owned by Dali. France became his home port in the 1980s, with regular stays on the Brittany coast. He exhibits regularly at the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles, the Salon de Mai and the Salon de La Jeune Sculpture.
