Albert Besnard (1849-1934) Madame Paul Gallimard. 1885. Pointe sèche. 263 x 374 [303 x 444]. Godefroy 26. Très belle épreuve sur vergé ivoire, du 1er état (sur 2), avant le trait carré, le sujet très réduit, annotée au crayon " 1er Etat ". Légères ondulations aux bords du feuillet. Toutes marges. Timbre AABM (Lugt 3075). Paul Gallimard (père du célèbre éditeur Gaston Gallimard) côtoyait et soutenait activement les peintres impressionnistes et symbolistes tels qu'Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas ou encore Auguste Rodin. C'est au sein de ces cercles qu'il rencontra Albert Besnard et lui commanda des illustrations originales destinées à enrichir son exemplaire personnel de l'ouvrage L'Affaire Clemenceau (1905).
