Neuenhausen est un sculpteur et céramiste du « réalisme critique », dénonçant la dictature et la torture, menant des projets en milieu carcéral et psychiatrique. N. a étudié à l'Académie des Beaux-Arts de Düsseldorf et a suivi des études de philosophie à Cologne. Depuis 1964, il est professeur à l'École supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Brunswick.
