Suzanne Joire était mannequin pour Jeanne Paquin, la première grande couturière française à connaître un succès international dès la fin du XIXe siècle. Au Salon de 1906 Gervex peint les époux Paquin et leur boutique dans les Cinq heures chez Paquin.
