Ce portrait du Dr Richard Richardson, docteur en médecine et membre de la Royal Society (1663–1741), éminent médecin, botaniste et antiquaire anglais, a été gravé par James Basire en 1816. Richardson fut élu membre de la Royal Society en 1712 et était connu pour ses études botaniques approfondies et sa correspondance avec d’autres scientifiques de renom, tels que Sir Hans Sloane. Cette gravure au trait a été publiée par John Nichols en 1816 en tant qu’illustration du livre *Illustrations of the Literary History of the Eighteenth Century*.
