Cette lithographie coloriée à la main est tirée de l’ouvrage *A History of the Spiders of Great Britain and Ireland* (Histoire des araignées de Grande-Bretagne et d’Irlande) de John Blackwall. Première édition publiée pour la Ray Society par Robert Hardwicke, Piccadilly, Londres, 1864. John Blackwall (1790 – 1881) était un naturaliste anglais qui s'intéressait tout particulièrement aux araignées. Il a publié *A History of the Spiders of Great Britain and Ireland*, qui répertoriait 304 espèces et fournissait les premières descriptions adéquates des araignées britanniques. Dix des planches figurant dans l’ouvrage sont l’œuvre d’Octavius Pickard-Cambridge et douze ont été réalisées par le naturaliste irlandais Robert Templeton, puis lithographiées par Tuffen West.
