The peak of Jitchou Drake (6989 m) is reflected at dawn in Lake Tsophou (4350 m) in Bhutan. I walked for four days in the mountains with Bhutanese friends to get to Tshophou. We reached both lakes one afternoon. It was windy and the conditions did not lend themselves to photography. I announced to my friends that I was going to sleep there. We had left our tents two hours’ walk down to the Jomo Lhari base camp. They were not very enthusiastic, but they were reluctant to abandon me to my fate. We met a nomadic family who put us up in their tent for the night. I knew what was going to happen at daybreak: at six o’clock in the morning, the lake was like a mirror and the lofty 6,900-meter-high Jitchou Draké peak was perfectly split over the surface of the lake. I welcomed with delight in my camera an image in homage to the great nature photographer Ansel Adams, a very similar image of whose I had seen in my adolescence, taken in an American National Park, an image that had inspired me a lot. It was well worth a four-day walk.
