Edouard Claes, Belge, 1880-1944- Portrait d'une femme debout, en pied, vêtue d'un manteau noir et d'un chapeau noir et blanc ; huile sur toile marouflée sur panneau, signée de manière indéchiffrable « Edouard J. Claes[?] » (en bas à gauche), inscription indéchiffrable au verso, 45,5 x 28 cm. Provenance : Collection privée, Royaume-Uni. Remarque : Claes a étudié à l’Académie des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles, où il a vécu et travaillé pendant la majeure partie de sa carrière. Il a participé au Prix de Rome en 1904. La présente œuvre est un exemple typique des représentations impressionnistes de personnages en tenue élégante qui constituent une grande partie de son œuvre.
