Cercle de Mason Chamberlin, RA, Britannique, 1727-1787- Portrait d'un gentilhomme, assis, en demi-longueur, vêtu d'une soutane ; huile sur toile, 77 x 63,9 cm. Provenance : Collection privée, Royaume-Uni. Remarque : Le présent tableau ressemble à des portraits de Chamberlin, qui fut l’un des membres fondateurs de la Royal Academy en 1768. Il rappelle en particulier son portrait d’Henry Venn (1724-1797), qui fait partie de la collection du Queens’ College de l’université de Cambridge [82]. Des œuvres similaires de Chamberlin ont été proposées chez Christie’s, à Londres, le 17 août 2016 (lot 348), et vendues chez Sotheby’s, à Londres, le 8 octobre 2002 (lot 383).
