Michael Philipp Junior, Allemand, actif entre 1654 et 1687- Saint Georges et le dragon ; eau-forte sur papier vergé, signée « MP Junior fecit paglia forfo / 1679 » (dans la planche, en bas à droite), portant une inscription illisible et un cachet du Kupferstichkabinett au verso, 14,2 x 17,1 cm. Provenance : Kupferstichkabinett, Munich [Lugt 1614]. chez Christopher Mendez, Londres. Collection particulière, Royaume-Uni. Note : On sait peu de choses sur Michael Philipp, si ce n’est qu’il a travaillé à Ulm, en Allemagne, dans la seconde moitié du XVIIe siècle. La présente œuvre s’inspire d’une composition aujourd’hui perdue du miniaturiste Giulio Clovio (1498-1578), connue grâce à la gravure réalisée par Enea Vico (1523-1567) et publiée en 1542 [voir Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, inv. 49.97.348].
