L'œuvre représente Erich Hartmann, l'as de la Luftwaffe au palmarès le plus impressionnant, aux commandes de son Messerschmitt Bf 109G-4, effectuant un survol à basse altitude aux côtés d'autres chasseurs du JG 52 au-dessus d'un Il-2 Sturmovik russe abattu.
