Breitenbach a indiqué que le lieu de prise de vue était la rue de la Grande Chaumière ; le panneau d’affichage visible dans la partie inférieure de la photographie annonce le film de Chaplin « Les Temps modernes », sorti en 1936 Référence évidente à « La magie de la fenêtre » d’André Breton (« Nadja ») ; à l’époque de la prise de vue, Breitenbach s’était tellement rapproché du surréalisme qu’il put proposer, début 1938, un reportage photographique sur l’exposition internationale du surréalisme à la Galerie des Beaux-Arts, à Paris, accompagné d’un manuscrit rédigé de sa main (publié dans : T.O.
