GARCÍA BROTHERS, Late Mannerist Baroque Granada School from the 16th to the 17th century - HEAD OF SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST IN NATURAL SIZE Measurements: in carved and polychrome wood, measurements: 43 x 43 x 13 cm. Miguel and Jerónimo Francisco García, canons of the Collegiate Church of El Salvador in Granada, were two outstanding Granada sculptors active between the 16th and 17th centuries, who can be placed in the transition phase from naturalism to the first baroque. They worked in clay and wood, and are known for a set of Ecce Homos usually small in size, meticulously modeled and highly expressive. A set of terracotta reliefs representing different saints in penance has recently been added to his catalog of works: Saint John the Baptist, Saint Jerome. The crucifixion in the sacristy of the Cathedral of Granada, traditionally considered the work of Montañés, has been attributed to them.
