She was the daughter of Henry IV of France and sister of Louis XIII. Following her husband's death in 1637, she acted as regent of Savoy between 1637 and 1648. Addressed to the Marquis of Villa: “…Gradiamo l’esatezza v.ra in avvisarci d’ogni cosa che pervenghi alla v.ra cognitione, circa gl’andamenti di d.a. Armata, poiché è … necessario che ne siamo puntualmente informata, affine di poter accudire da qui dove il bisogno lo richiede…”. The Battle of Crescentino was fought on April 24, 1652, during the Franco-Spanish War. The Savoyard army, led by the Count of Verrua, defeated the French army, led by the Count of Harcourt.
