Penn Atto. for Plf.", une page, 7,25 x 4,5, 1er août 1785. Formulaire manuscrit de citation à comparaître rempli de la main de John Penn, contenant environ 56 mots de sa main, déposé en tant qu'avocat du plaignant dans une action pour dette. Penn demande à "John Williams esq, John Mitchell & Phillis his wife, and Sauel Farrar Williams...executors of Williams & Williams" de répondre à "Charles Duncan of a plea that they render to him sixty pounds sixteen shillings & six pence Virg'a Currency". Endossé au verso à l'encre par Penn. En bon état. Dans son ouvrage de référence de 1995, History Comes to Life, Kenneth Rendell place les documents autographes de John Penn dans la catégorie des documents "très rares" parmi les signataires. La carrière de Penn, brève mais prolifique, a été ponctuée par six années passées au Congrès et en tant que signataire des Résolutions d'Halifax (la Constitution de Caroline du Nord), des Articles de la Confédération et de la Déclaration d'indépendance. De santé fragile à l'issue de son mandat au Congrès, Penn meurt à l'âge de 47 ans, peu avant que George Washington ne prenne ses fonctions de premier président des États-Unis.
