Einige Tafeln leicht stockfleckig. Insgesamt wohlerhalten. With a total of 25 engraved plates, 8 of them coloured. 3 parts in 1 vol. Green cloth of the time with rich ornamental blind and gold embossing, gilt edges, three gilt edges and marbled endpapers. Three gilt edges and marble endpapers (discoloured, somewhat rubbed and bumped). - Without the frontispiece portrait. - First collected edition. - The plates, engraved by John Burnet after other artists and old masters, show techniques of painting and drawing: 9 plates on composition, 8 plates on light and shadow and 8 plates on colouring. - Somewhat browned. Lee] Ordres généraux confédérés n° 3, confirmant la nomination d'un général en chef des armées des Etats confédérés Rare commande imprimée datée de la guerre de Sécession pour les "General Orders, No. 3", émise par le bureau de l'adjudant et de l'inspecteur général à Richmond, Virginie, une page, 5 x 6,75, 6 février 1865. L'ordre, "publié pour l'information de l'armée", contient une loi du Congrès destinée à "pourvoir à la nomination d'un général en chef des armées des États confédérés". La deuxième section se lit en partie comme suit "Le général ROBERT E. LEE ayant été dûment nommé général en chef des armées des États confédérés, assumera les fonctions qui en découlent et sera obéi et respecté en conséquence. La partie supérieure porte un tampon "Rebel Archives" de la "Record Division, War Department". En bon état, avec une tache sur le bord droit.
