Dutch binding: contemp. black "galuchat" leather, spine with raised bands, silver cornerpieces, clasps and catches and a chain, signed "G". Typical Dutch corrected edition of a "Keur" Bible. Ill. with an engr. title. Privilege of the "Staten Generael der Vereenighde Nederlanden" on A2. Signed copy. Woodcut mark on part titles. Printed in Gothic type in 2 col. Church books were often luxuriously finished with silver fittings and carrying chains. This last feature allowed the churchgoer to carry their bible on the arm of by hand. The silverwork can be regarded as devout fashion accessory for public display on church days. The silver fittings were crafted by a silversmith which can be identified by means of the small but barely visible hallmarks (on this copy we could identify an initial "G" and the hallmark of a duck).
