1957 Chevrolet Corvette No reserve Titre de circulation suédois Châssis n° E57S105992 • Forme séduisante pour ce millésime 1957 • Puissant V8 • Restauration ancienne bien préservée • Sans réserve Vendue neuve aux États-Unis, cette Corvette cabriolet est arrivée en Europe à la fin des années 80, puis en 1998 en Suède. Elle a fait l'objet d'une révision complète en 2015 et c'est l'année suivante que Staffan Wittmark en a fait l'acquisition, séduit par le dessin de cette sportive d'outre-Atlantique. C'est d'ailleurs la seule voiture américaine de sa collection. En décembre 2023, elle a été confiée à l'atelier SRO, au Castellet, pour une réfection complète du circuit d'alimentation, avec rinçage du réservoir et du carburateur, remise en état de la pompe, remplacement des canalisations et de la jauge à essence. A cette occasion, le liquide de refroidissement a été vidangé, le radiateur ayant été refait peu avant. Aujourd'hui, cette voiture présente l'aspect qui correspond à une restauration ancienne joliment patinée. L'habitacle est dans un bel état, avec ses sièges rouges, le petit levier de la boîte manuelle à quatre rapports et l'impressionnant tableau de bord dont les instruments s'étalent sur toute la surface, de part et d'autre d'un autoradio à l'allure ancienne. Un porte-gobelet a été rajouté dans l'accoudoir central. Le compartiment moteur semble conforme à l'origine et la voiture a été très peu utilisée ces dernières années. La version 1957 est particulièrement attrayante sur le plan du style et son moteur V8 lui apporte la puissance permettant de tenir le haut du pavé. Ce cabriolet constitue une belle représentante de cette grande classique, réponse de Chevrolet à la déferlante de voitures de sport européennes aux États-Unis au début des années 50. • Appealing design of this 1957 model • Powerful V8 • Well-preserved older restoration • No reserve Sold new in the United States, this Corvette convertible arrived in Europe at the end of the 1980s, and in Sweden in 1998. It underwent a complete overhaul in 2015 and was acquired the following year by Staffan Wittmark, who was won over by the design of the American sports car. It is, moreover, the only American car in his collection. In December 2023, it was sent to the SRO workshop at Le Castellet for a complete rebuild of the fuel system: the fuel tank and carburettor were flushed and cleaned, the pump repaired, and the fuel lines and gauge replaced. At the same time, the coolant was drained, the radiator having been rebuilt shortly before. Today, the car has the appearance of an older restoration with an attractive patina. The interior is in fine condition, with its red seats, the little lever for the four-speed manual gearbox and the impressive dashboard with its array of instruments spread across its entire width, on both sides of a classic-looking radio. A cupholder has been added to the centre armrest. The engine compartment appears to be to the original specification and the car has seen very little use in recent years. The styling of the 1957 version is especially attractive and its V8 engine gives it the power to lead the pack. This convertible is a fine representative of this great classic, which was Chevrolet’s response to the flood of European sports cars reaching the States at the start of the 1950s.
