HENRYK STAżEWSKI (1894-1988) Relief nr. 14, 1973 Acrylique sur panneau Signé, titré et daté au dos Acrylic on fiberboard; signed, titled and dated on the reverse 60 x 60 cm - 23 5/8 x 23 5/8 in. - - PROVENANCE Acquis directement auprès de l’artiste Collection Achille Perilli, Italie - - NOTE Peint en 1973, Relief nr. 14 provient directement de la collection du maître de l’art abstrait italien, Achille Perilli, disparu il y a deux ans. Cette œuvre, qui lui avait été offerte par Henryk Stażewski et qu’il a conservée pendant plus de quarante ans, témoigne de l’amitié et de l’admiration mutuelle entre les deux artistes. C’est à l’occasion de l’exposition consacrée à Perilli, à Varsovie en 1969, à la Galerie Foksal, fondée trois ans plus tôt par un groupe de critiques et d’artistes dont Stażewski, qu’ils s’étaient rencontrés. Dès lors, Perilli restera très lié à l’avant-garde polonaise réunie au sein de la Galerie Foksal et sera même à l’origine d’une exposition au Palazzo delle Esposizion à Rome, en 1979, intitulée “L’avanguardia polacca 1910-1978” où figuraient notamment plusieurs œuvres de Stażewski. - Painted in 1973, Relief nr. 14 comes directly from the collection of the master of Italian abstract art, Achille Perilli, who died two years ago. Offered to him by Henryk Stażewski himself, he kept it for more than forty years which testifies to the friendship and mutual admiration between the two artists. They met at the occasion of the exhibition devoted to Perilli, in Warsaw in 1969, at the Galeria Foksal, founded three years earlier by a group of critics and artists including Stażewski. From then on, Perilli remained closely linked to the Polish avant-garde gathered around the Galeria Foksal and was also the initiator of an exhibition entitled “L’avanguardia polacca 1910-1978” at the Palazzo delle Esposizion in Rome in 1979, where several works by Stażewski were included.
