FRIEDRICH VIKTOR SPITZER (1864–1922) Anton Wildgans, c. 1918 Image Size: 30,8 x 22,5 cm Photogravure on tissue paper 26 x 36 cm, flush-mounted on original cardboard 68,5 x 49,7 cm, in excellent condition. The sitter's facsimile signature printed in gravure below the portrait. Typographic "Dr. F. V. Spitzer fec." in the lower margin at left, "Heliogravure u. Druck des k.u.k. Militärgeograph. Inst." in the lower margin at right. The lyricist and playwright Anton Wildgans (1881–1932) was particularly appreciated for his socially critical works and also worked as the director of Vienna's Burgtheater. F. V. Spitzer was an industrialist and amateur photographer, he belonged to the pictorialist circle around Heinrich Kühn, Hugo v. Henneberg and H. Watzek and created a number of significant portraits, for example of Gustav Klimt.
