SEMPLE, Miss The Costume of the Netherlands displayed in thirty coloured engravings after drawings from nature by Miss Semple with descriptions in English and French London Ackermann 1817 In-folio, [4] + 30 pp. Title with hand-coloured vignette and 30 hand-coloured costume pl. with a English and French description. Contemporary long-grained dark blue morocco, with blind stamped and gilt border, all edges gilt, corners slightly bumped, pink end lvs First edition of this beautiful aquatint costume-book of the Netherlands with short explanatory text in English and French. Miss Semple was a sharp observer, and her accompanying remarks are to the point and often humorous (cfr. Landwehr, Col. Pl., 431).
