En el centro del reverso del lienzo, anotación manuscrita con tinta: «Don Benedeto Fantuzzi». 88 x 67 cm (restauración, faltas) Importante y bello marco de finales del siglo XVII y principios del XVIII, de madera, estuco dorado con decoración de flores, hojas en relieve y arabescos. Con marco: 110 x 90 cm Colección particular, Francia. Nota: La inscripción en el reverso podría ser el nombre del mecenas veneciano (Benedetto se escribe Benedeto en Venecia). Agradecemos a los profesores Sandro Bellisi, de Florencia, y Daniele Benati, de Bolonia, sus análisis sobre la procedencia geográfica de la obra. En el siglo XVII, la lucha de David contra Goliat simbolizaba principalmente el triunfo de la fe y la humildad frente al orgullo y la fuerza bruta.
