Escuela española, finales del siglo XVIII - primera mitad del siglo XIX. "Fraile franciscano con cruz". Madera tallada y policromada. Medidas: 65 x 30 x 20 cm. Talla devocional en madera que representa a un fraile franciscano, con barba y hábito ceñido, descalzo sobre una base rocosa y apoyado en la cruz a la que está sujeto. La figura, captada en un momento de movimiento y recogimiento, transmite intensidad espiritual y dramatismo a través de la inclinación de la cabeza y la caída de los pliegues del hábito. Por sus características estilísticas y técnicas, la obra se sitúa entre los últimos años del siglo XVIII y las primeras décadas del siglo XIX, en un contexto en el que la imaginería religiosa aún mantiene ecos barrocos pero con un tratamiento más sobrio y naturalista. Este tipo de esculturas, concebidas para oratorios privados o conventuales, son hoy piezas de arte sacro muy apreciadas tanto por su calidad artística como por su valor testimonial en la historia de la espiritualidad y la expansión misionera.
