Reconocible al instante y símbolo absoluto de la creatividad de VAN CLEEF & ARPELS, el «Serti Mystérieux», patentado en la década de 1930, es una técnica que responde a unos códigos precisos, dominados por un número muy reducido de joyeros. Solo las creaciones realizadas para la casa Van Cleef & Arpels pueden ostentar la denominación registrada «Serti Mystérieux». Consiste en un entramado, visible únicamente en el reverso de la joya, sin ninguna garra, compuesto por una red de finas varillas que sujetan zafiros de gran calidad, tallados uno a uno con absoluta precisión, lo que permite que el tallo se inserte en la piedra preciosa para permanecer invisible.
