Tilly Kettle 1735 Londres - 1786 Alepo, Siria - Retrato de tres cuartos de un caballero (Portrait of a gentleman, three quarter length) - Óleo sobre lienzo. Doble. 124 x 100 cm. 148 x 124 cm (dimensiones con marco). Marco. Ligeramente restaurado. Los bordes presentan ligeras pérdidas de color. - Procedencia: colección privada, Alemania (subasta de Christie's Londres, 14 de septiembre de 2021, lote 76). El retratista inglés Tilly Kettle (1735-1786) figura entre los artistas británicos más destacados del siglo XVIII. Fue el primer pintor inglés en trabajar en la India británica y alcanzó fama sobre todo por sus retratos de gala. El presente cuadro muestra a un caballero en figura de tres cuartos, vestido con una chaqueta beige y un chaleco a rayas, acompañado de un galgo. Esta representación de gran formato se ajusta al tipo de retrato representativo del siglo XVIII inglés. El galgo complementa la elegante puesta en escena del retratado y, al mismo tiempo, alude a su entorno social y a su estilo de vida.
