Encargada en 1991 para celebrar el centenario de la famosa Gazette de l'Hôtel Drouot (1891-1991), Bernard Buffet despliega aquí todo su estilo característico. Fiel a su expresionismo incisivo y a sus gruesos contornos negros, crea aquí un efecto de «abyme» con el ejemplar conmemorativo de la Gazette, asociándolo a los atributos del experto y del cronista (el tintero y la pluma), bajo la protección de un ramillete floral típico de su lenguaje visual.
