El artista se centra en el ritmo y la repetición de formas sencillas, así como en la relación entre el color y el soporte pictórico. Además de sus características obras sobre lienzo sin imprimar y sin tensar, creó numerosas obras sobre papel, especialmente en acuarela y tinta china. También en este caso, la repetición de signos gestuales, la inclusión deliberada de la superficie del lienzo sin tratar y el principio de lo inacabado determinan sus composiciones.
