Esta gran obra en tinta marca una etapa crucial y muy codiciada en la que el artista sienta las bases de su famoso periodo de los «Signos». Alejándose del estricto rigor geométrico de sus inicios, Debré sintetiza aquí la expresión de una presencia humana o de un paisaje a través de unos pocos trazos amplios de tinta negra lanzados sobre el blanco del papel. La fuerza de esta composición depurada reside en su perfecto equilibrio entre el boceto preparatorio a lápiz, visible como un trasfondo, y la espontaneidad de un gesto caligráfico potente.
