Tinta china sobre papel 31,7 × 43,2 cm (12,48 × 17,01 pulgadas) Cuando Lambil retoma *Las Túnicas Azules* tras la muerte de Salvérius, Cauvin ya es un guionista experimentado. Lambil también cuenta con una gran experiencia, pero más en el dibujo semirrealista que encontramos en la serie *Sandy y Hoppy*. Con *Les Déserteurs*, Lambil dibuja por primera vez en solitario un álbum de la serie y consolida de forma duradera la apariencia de Blutch, Chesterfield y su universo. Su bello trazo, ágil y expresivo, nunca totalmente caricaturesco, acentúa el contraste entre el humor de los personajes y el realismo necesario: la violencia de la guerra. En este álbum, Cauvin contrapone el pacifismo de Blutch a los conceptos de valentía, cobardía y deber militar: el capitán Joyce asume temporalmente el mando de Fort Bow y, con una autoritarismo estúpido, encierra a los soldados que se le oponen. Estos se fugan y Blutch y Chesterfield los persiguen en compañía de su oficial superior… Este pronto es capturado por los comanches… Con este álbum, Lambil y Cauvin logran un equilibrio duradero entre el humor militar, la aventura y una mirada crítica sobre la guerra.
