Moneda nupcial, Dani, Región de las Tierras Altas, Papúa-Nueva Guinea Altura: 51 cm Piedra, fibras vegetales y piel. Las monedas nupciales de piedra verde ocupaban un lugar esencial en los intercambios ceremoniales de las Tierras Altas de Papúa. Combinaban una lámina de piedra cuidadosamente pulida con fibras vegetales (en este caso, de orquídea) y piel de zarigüeya; se ofrecían con motivo de las uniones matrimoniales y constituían auténticos bienes de prestigio, que se transmitían y conservaban como símbolos de riqueza y estatus social. Los restos de pigmentos rojos en la parte posterior de esta piedra dan fe de su antigüedad. Procedencia: Galería australiana.
