BONITA CARTA ÍNTIMA DE CHARLES GOUNOD A SU AMIGO JULES RICHOMME, EN LA QUE HABLA DE SU ESTADO DE SALUD Y DE SU PROGRESIVA VUELTA AL TRABAJO. «No me ha sorprendido, y sí me ha llegado al corazón, el interés que has mostrado por saber de mí durante los días tan desagradables que acabo de hacer pasar a quienes me rodean». El compositor, visiblemente debilitado, describe con franqueza su estado de convalecencia: «Todavía tengo la cabeza muy vacía y las piernas muy flojas: por el momento, me veo inevitablemente reducido a una vida muy estéril y muy ociosa». No obstante, expresa la esperanza de retomar pronto sus ocupaciones y sus hábitos de trabajo, gracias a una rutina más regular y al descanso. Un entrañable testimonio sobre la vida privada y la salud de Gounod, que revela el profundo afecto que sentía por su amigo de la juventud, el pintor Jules Richomme (1818-1903).
