Saint Joseph with the Child – Murillo or his Workshop – Spanish School, 17th Century Oil on panel. 36 x 27 cm. 42 x 33 x 3 cm (frame). Saint Joseph is depicted half-length, holding the Christ Child, who is in the foreground and gazes towards the viewer. The saint carries the flowering staff, one of his usual iconographic attributes. The dark background emphasizes the figures and the modeling of the flesh tones. The reverse reveals the wooden support.
