Tras formarse en artes y cerámica en Corea y posteriormente en Alemania, creó su propio taller en Sandhausen antes de asumir, en 1987, la dirección del Taller de Cerámica Margaretenhöhe, en Essen. Reconocida internacionalmente por su obra, también imparte clases en la Universidad EWHA de Seúl y, en 2016, recibió el título de doctora honoris causa por la Academia de Bellas Artes de Breslavia. Su trayectoria está marcada por numerosas distinciones prestigiosas que reconocen su contribución a la cerámica y a las artes y oficios.
