Gustave-Adolphe MOSSA (Niza, 1883-1971). Loti y Aziyadé en el Bósforo. Lápiz y acuarela sobre papel, firmado en la parte inferior izquierda. Altura: 35 cm; anchura: 24,5 cm; pequeña mancha de óxido en la parte superior Nota: Aziyadé es la primera novela de Pierre Loti, escrita durante su estancia en Turquía y publicada de forma anónima en 1879. En ella narra la trágica historia de amor de la bella Aziyadé, mujer del harén de un anciano rico, y de Loti, un joven oficial de la marina europea durante su viaje por Turquía entre 1876 y 1877. Este relato es emblemático del movimiento orientalista que marcó las artes y la literatura del siglo XIX. Gustave Adolphe Mossa, pintor e ilustrador vinculado al movimiento simbolista, se inspiraba a menudo en los grandes autores de su época, de los que era un lector asiduo. Así, a lo largo de su vida, creó una obra impregnada de referencias a mitos y fábulas.
