The sale is organised around four major groups:
Rahan: Iconic Original Comics from the Legendary Series to Go Under the Hammer
O n 24 March, Néo Enchères, with the expertise of Florian Bourguet, will offer an unprecedented collection of original Rahan boards and drawings, from the collection of Jean-François Lécureux, son of the creator of this legendary comic series.“My father and I have always wanted Rahan to remain a popular character, accessible to as many people as possible. We are delighted to give Rahan’s fans the opportunity to acquire, at affordable prices, original works devoted to this iconic character. Rahan is a true Proustian madeleine: an emblematic figure that collectors can proudly display in their living rooms.”— Jean-François LécureuxCreated in 1969 by Roger Lécureux and André Chéret, Rahan first appeared on 24 February 1969 in the inaugural issue of Pif Gadget. The “son of the savage ages” quickly established himself as one of the most memorable heroes of French comics, with 40% of readers being women, reflecting his broad appeal. Humanist, curious, and free from superstition, Rahan embodies an ideal of progress, transmission, and protection—of children, women, and nature—that has resonated across generations.
The sale is organised around four major groups:
- The first boards published in Pif in 1969, bearing witness to the birth of the myth;
- The great adventure stories of the 1970s–1980s, showcasing André Chéret’s full artistic maturity;
- A series of iconic covers, true visual symbols of the hero;
More singular works, including illustrations and rare pieces revealing the artist’s creative freedom.
“NEO Enchères is particularly honoured to manage the dispersal of Rahan’s original boards and to offer collectors the opportunity to meet the writer of the latest episodes during a signing session on Saturday 21 March from 2 pm, in Room 4 at Hôtel Drouot.”
— Quentin Charraudeau, President of NEO Enchères
“We have carefully selected the finest Rahan boards preserved by the Lécureux family. The sale is aimed at all enthusiasts and budgets: from small drawings to major original boards, up to Rahan’s spectacular racing motorcycle.”
— Florian Bourguet, Comics Expert at NEO Enchères
Preserved within the Lécureux family and never before offered for sale, these works tell the story of the birth and rise of a character who has become iconic. Their introduction to the market marks a unique moment—both patrimonial and emotional—in the history of French comics.
A prehistoric hero navigating a fictional universe inspired by the origins of humanity, Rahan moves through an imagined prehistory where “those who walk upright” confront both the forces of nature and their own fears.
Armed with his hunting knife and bearing the Necklace of Five Claws—symbols of generosity, courage, tenacity, loyalty, and wisdom—augmented in recent years by a sixth claw: ingenuity, he stands out as an enlightened adventurer, defender of knowledge, and opponent of superstition. With over 80 million copies sold, the series has seen numerous reprints and two animated adaptations, and it remains a cornerstone of French popular culture today.
The public exhibition, taking place on the Saturday and Monday before the sale, will include a signing session with the latest series writer and events dedicated to the work. It offers a rare opportunity to rediscover, through the original boards, the graphic and narrative power of a hero who has never stopped travelling.
