20th-Century Brilliance: Decorative Arts and Sculpture at Drouot
A uction house Ader is set to captivate enthusiasts of modern and contemporary art with an auction entirely dedicated to 20th-century Decorative Arts and Sculpture, taking place on Friday, 28 November 2025, at 2 p.m.
The catalogue highlights the exceptional creativity of this period, bringing together some of its most iconic names. Lovers of Art Nouveau will be particularly drawn to a precious selection of works by René Lalique, including a charming Hellébore Vert pendant, circa 1900–1905 (est. €15,000–20,000), as well as a fine group of drawings.
In the field of design, the sale features two Torsade coffee tables from the collection of a major European industrial group. Created in the early 1970s, they remained with their original owner until today. Acquired during the refurbishment of the reception salons, they were intended to complement a classic and majestic décor designed to welcome distinguished guests (est. €200,000–300,000).
Also of note is a superb decorative composition, Pomone (1936) by René Buthaud, executed as a set of six panels. Purchased at the time of its creation by Raphaël Delorme — a painter of the Bordeaux school and a close friend of the ceramicist — it is also known in an Aubusson tapestry version, exhibited at the 1937 International Exhibition of Art and Technology in Modern Life, Paris (est. €150,000–200,000).
Major creations by the tapestry artist Jean Lurçat complement the selection, including L’homme aux coqs, a model conceived around 1940 (est. €8,000–12,000).
Finally, two exceptional bas-reliefs by Ossip Zadkine, commissioned by the decorator André Groult for Lucie Mayen’s Parisian mansion, round off the selection. Following the mansion’s transformation into a school and its eventual demolition, these monumental pieces were reinstalled in the new building before being offered at auction.
