Sir Francis ROSE (1909–1979) "Corte, Le Mamelon, the house of the mad judge." Graphite on paper. Signed and dated "13 Sept(ember)" (1948?) in the lower right corner. 18 x 23 cm (image size). Dimensions with frame: 39 x 44 cm. Sir Francis Rose stayed in Corsica on several occasions between 1948 and 1954, alongside his wife, the writer Dorothy Carrington (Lady Rose). There, he primarily drew the island’s architecture and inhabitants in spontaneous works that reflect his perspective on postwar Corsica.
