Eliane HUREAUX (Charleville-Mézières, 1905 – Quintin, 1994) View of the Place des Fêtes in Paris Pastel signed lower right. Inscriptions on the back (Eliane Hureaux / Model by Pascin (Julius Pinkas) / circa 1925 / in Montparnasse / Galerie Larvor Saint-Brieuc / 4/1992 / BAJJ) and on the stretcher (Paris: View of the Place des Fêtes). Height: 25.8 cm. Width: 24 cm. As seen. Provenance: J.P. Collection, Saint-Brieuc. Eliane Hureaux was 17 years old when she arrived in Paris to seek her fortune. She frequented the artistic circles of Montparnasse and Montmartre, where she posed for Derain, Zadkine, and Foujita, but above all for Pasquin, who considered her his “spiritual daughter.” It was he, along with Kisling, who encouraged her to enroll at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. Thus, it is no surprise that her style is strongly influenced by Expressionism.
