Attributed to Charles DUDOUYT (Paris, 1885 – Paris, 1946) Modernist sideboard. Solid oak and carved, patinated oak veneer; the panels are whitewashed. Length: 186 cm. Width: 50 cm. Height: 98 cm. (Signs of wear and patina from use). Charles DUDOUYT, born in 1885 in Paris, began offering interior design projects to his clients in the 1920s. He designed the woodwork for the Daunou bar and decorated the apartments of Mistinguett and other celebrities. His style gradually became more refined, as he made use of the interplay of light on the wood grain and in the geometry of his furniture. He then opened the interior design store “La Gentilhommière,” where he showcased his own furniture as well as creations by Jean Besnard, Georges Jouve, Jean Desprès, and Alexandre Noll. Charles Dudouyt drew inspiration from regional decorative traditions to create modern, inspired furniture distinguished by its precise proportions and exceptional craftsmanship.
